My son’s new bento container arrived from Japan yesterday. I found it on ebay at his request. Some of you may not know who Anpanman is, and well neither did I until I bought a package of Anpanman chocolates several months back.
After I brought the chocolates home my son started asking me questions about the characters on the package and the wrappers. I of course had no idea, so we did some looking around on the internet and found some information about the show and some of the characters. My son was already hooked, and then I found some animations on YouTube. I think he’s watched all of them at least once by now. And I have to admit, I like watching the cartoons too even though I have no idea what they’re saying.
The premise of the show is a wonderful good verse evil kind of thing, with the good guys having baked bread products for heads and the bad guy being a germ.
“In each episode, Anpanman fights with Baikinman and helps the people of the town. He always goes on patrol in the area around the house of Jam Ojisan. He is a symbol of justice, fighting for the cause of justice every day. Anpanman has a long history and new characters are frequently introduced, keeping the series fresh.”
In the process of looking around for information for my son I came across the bento container and he told me he HAD to have it. So today he is having his first lunch with his new container, and needless to say he was quite excited this morning as I was putting his lunch together.
“Momma! Look! That’s my lunch, isn’t it cool?!” Such simple pleasures, made my day.

It’s an evil fighting bread man - and he’s stuffed full of food. What’s not to love?

Hey Holly,
That is a chocolate I bought at our somewhat local “Asian” market. The toothpaste is a character from Anpanman. Thanks for stopping by!

Lisa,
I smile every morning when I put together my son’s lunch. I am not sure if it’s the rosy cheeks or the fact that he looks like he wants to give someone a hug, you’re right whats not to love about a “evil fighting bread man?”
