My name is David Belson. I am a Dad, husband, foodie, wanderer and a front end web developer. I listen to records, cook, make box lunches for my family, take pictures, drink single malt scotch and Belgian ale, buy organic food, love nature and being barefoot. I started making lunches for my wife and kids in an attempt to get us all to eat better.
In my search for new ideas for lunches I came across a bento group on flickr and became instantly hooked on the idea of making similar types of lunches for my own family. Some of the appeal was the smaller portions, the lovely colors, the balance of flavors and textures and the use of simple ingredients to make the food not just a meal but a thing of beauty. I ordered my wife a Mr. Bento for Christmas 2007 and made my first bento a week later. For my kids I use “Lock and Lock” containers, they are leak proof and have compartments. What more could you ask for? Ok, what about a lovely wife who offers to write a flattering blurb about you for your web site.
“My husband is a person who is subtly open to new experiences. He does not exuberantly enter into things, but quietly, and gently. The trait he has that I am most envious of is that he will try anything at least once. His voice in not loud, and his large frame seems to sometimes try to be smaller than it is. He moves well in our small kitchen, and with another person in his space can peacefully coexist, not unlike a dance in a dark crowded room. His easy going smile, and general go-with-the-flow personality contradicts his constant efforts to push the rest of us into the pure pleasure of experiencing something new. He never tires of asking us, and is always slipping something unexpected into my bento. He has an appreciation for cultures so foreign to ours, and always has eyes for the smallest detail that he directs all our attention. We try for his sake to have the same enthusiasm, but conversations of rice molds, and web standards just don’t float my boat.
Please read his site, appreciate the small things, and share his love of quirks.”
